A calm start for your self-custody journey

Make your first
move with confidence.

Trezor.io/start is the official starting point for setting up a new Trezor hardware wallet. This independent walkthrough helps you know what to expect, what to check, and where to continue—before you connect a device.

01THE FIRST CONNECTION

Begin with the source.
Then take it one step at a time.

A hardware wallet is designed to keep control of your digital assets in your hands. Getting started is less about rushing through a checklist and more about knowing which instructions to trust. The simplest first step is to type Trezor.io/start into your browser yourself and confirm the address before continuing.

The official setup page guides you toward the right onboarding steps for your device and operating system. Follow the prompts there to install or open Trezor Suite, the companion app used to interact with your wallet. If a search result, advertisement, email, or message sends you somewhere else, pause and return to the address you entered directly. A familiar-looking page is not proof that it is genuine.

Unbox the device and inspect it before connecting. If packaging looks unexpectedly opened or anything about the device seems unusual, stop and contact official support rather than trying to troubleshoot through a third-party message. Once connected, let the official setup flow explain what your device is asking you to do. Read each prompt on the device itself, too; the hardware screen is an important part of verifying actions.

Take your time. A secure setup is one you understand—not one you hurried through.

02BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Set yourself up
for a smoother start.

Give yourself a few uninterrupted minutes, use a computer or phone you trust, and make sure your internet connection is stable. Keep your wallet nearby and follow the official instructions that match your model. You do not need to share sensitive information with anyone to get help with basic setup.

Trezor Suite is where you can manage your wallet after setup, but always reach it through the official website rather than an unsolicited download link. The exact screens can change as software is updated, so treat this article as orientation—not a substitute for the current on-screen instructions. If a step differs, trust the official flow and pause to check support resources.

03THE MOST IMPORTANT SECRET

Your recovery backup
belongs to you alone.

During setup, your wallet may guide you through creating a recovery backup. This backup is the sensitive key to restoring access if your device is lost or damaged. Write it down exactly as instructed and store it somewhere private and secure. Never photograph it, type it into a website, save it in cloud storage, or share it with a person claiming to be support. No legitimate helper needs your recovery words.

Be wary of urgency. Anyone asking you to reveal your backup, scan a code to “validate” it, or enter it into a page is asking for control of your wallet. If something feels off, stop interacting and navigate to the official help center by entering its address directly. Good security habits are simple: verify the source, protect your recovery information, and take a moment to check every action.

When you are ready, use the official pages below as your source of truth. This article is an independent orientation guide and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Trezor.
